In addition to the ATi device Tim mentioned, Keyspan has been making 
such devices for a long time on the Mac

also work on Windows.

If you have a Bluetooth enabled phone and Mac, you can also use your 
phone to control your Mac. Software solutions such as Salling Clicker 
<http://homepage.mac.com/jonassalling/Shareware/Clicker/>  offer a 
variety of controls which you can customize (and is the solution I 
currently use).
