[Macpartners] Virex 7.5 Release Effort Underway

Good afternoon,

Information Services and Technology is announcing the start of a 
release effort for Virex 7.5, the upcoming version of McAfee's 
anitvirus program for Mac OS X users. The release team will address 
testing, configuration, documentation and distribution of Virex 7.5.

New Features
------------
Virex 7.5 has several new features, including:

* Virex Schedule Editor: Enables users to schedule automated scans and 
updates to virus definition (DAT) files and software components that 
are available online.

* Scan Mounted Volume: Initiates a scan of a volume such as a CD or 
camera when one is locally mounted. With this scanner you can scan a 
large volume or device for infection before interfacing it with your 
system.

* Active Scanner: Provides continuous anti-virus protection on the hard 
disk from network connections and the Internet.

* Contains the latest scanning engine and an updated, easier to use 
user interface.

Known Issues
------------
Currently Virex 7.5 Beta Active Scanner (AS) is having a known conflict 
with Palm Desktop 4.1 and similar syncing software's. The Virex 
development team is working on this problem and will release an update 
when they have a solution.

If you have questions, suggestions or would like to participate in the 
release of Virex 7.5, please contact the team at virex-release at mit.edu. 
Virex 7.5 requires Mac OS X 10.2.6 or higher; or Mac OS X 10.3.3. 
Potential testers should be aware that Virex 7.5 is still in beta--it's 
not complete and may contain bugs that could damage data. For more

Although we are starting with the beta version, it will be the 
completed version of Virex 7.5 that will be released to the MIT 
community.
