[Macpartners] PowerbookG3 NIC problems.

Hello,

   I inherited a used Powerbook G3
400 Mhz.
128 Mb. memory
6 Gb. harddrive

I started with installing the OS 8.6 that came
with the original kit and found that the network
card would work and not work at times. I disabled
appletalk to use tcp/ip only and applied some
upgrades to 9.0 and it started working regularly.

I added OS X and both OS networked OK. When
I upgraded to 10.2 it stopped working for both OS.

I plug it into a router that I use for VPN and use
DHCP to get a 192.168.etc.etc. address for it.
I read about some issues with autosensing the
speed between 10 and 100 Mb/sec. I could try
giving it a static IP and connecting directly to
the MIT network, but I suspect that it would
not be able to start en0. It is as if it is shut
off.

Anyone have experience with a flaky en0 on
a Powerbook G3?

Thanks,
  James
