Good morning:

The IS Software Release Team has revised the format of our monthly 
communication to better inform the MIT community of upcoming software, 
related events, recent releases, work in progress, software licence 
availability and also software and hardware slated for desupport.

The team wishes to remind you to check with your local IT staff within your 
Department, Lab or Center before upgrading your operating system or install 
new software and patches.  They may already have a solution in place that 
may be easier and tested to work in your environment.

SPOTLIGHT:

Join Information Systems as the Software Release Team holds two informal 
Software Town Meetings on Monday, July 28 and Friday, August 8 from 12-1:30 
PM in the Marlar Lounge (37-252).  The goal of the meetings are to share 
information regarding software that Information Systems is providing or 
supporting and to hear from you regarding your software needs as we begin 
the new fiscal year.  If you plan to attend, you need only attend one 
session.  Please RSVP to Deb Bowser (bowser at mit.edu), including which 
meeting you will attend no later than Wednesday, July 23.

VOLUME SITE LICENSE DISTRIBUTION

MIT has purchased a large volume of Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0 licenses 
through an agreement between Adobe and the Massachusetts Higher Education 
Consortium. The terms of this agreement provide us the ability to 
distribute these licenses for use on MIT owned workstations by staff, 
faculty and students. Additionally, MIT staff and faculty will have home 
use rights for Acrobat Professional.  Unfortunately student use of Acrobat 
on student owned machines is prohibited by this agreement.

Note: The AI Lab, EECS, and LCS have their own pool of Acrobat Professional 
licenses. Colleagues associated with any of these Departments may contact 
the AI Lab/LCS central service group or e-mail your inquiry to crs at lcs.mit.edu.

You can request Adobe Acrobat Professional beginning July 3rd at 
http://web.mit.edu/is/products/vsls/.
