MacPartners meeting notes Monday, July 21, 2003.

1) Jay McSweeney of Apple gave an overview of recent announcements including:

* Power Macintosh G5

Jay brought literature: Mac OS X for UNIX users, Mac OS X 10.2 
Windows Compatibility, Power Mac G5 Technical Overview, and XServe

2) We have two iSights to try until Friday, July 25.  If you're 
interested in giving one a try, contact Al at awillis at mit.edu.


3) Q & A and Miscellaneous

* We say goodbye to Susan Midlarsky!  Best of luck with your K-12 
adventure.  Susan reports that they're in need of any and all 
computer equipment and will send us a list once she's got it 
compiled.  Schools are always a great place to donate deactivated 
equipment as they always seem to be in need.

* What is the G4 Power Supply Exchange Program?
The Power Supply Exchange Program was available to owners of Power 
Mac G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors) computers from February 21, 2003 
through June 30, 2003.  If you placed an order before July 1, 2003, 
your order will be shipped as scheduled (6 to 8 weeks from date of 
order).

* What hardware can I purchase that will boot Mac OS 9?
iBooks
eMacs
A few G4s, including a dual processor model.

* An interesting tidbit for those corresponding via e-mail in Japanese:
Mail allows you to compose in Japanese, but Eudora doesn't.  We do 
have documentation for Mail on-line, although official support isn't 
available quite yet.

4) No August Meeting
There will be not meeting in August as we use that time to do 
planning for the next academic year.  To those who filled out surveys 
at the June 23 party with suggestions for improvements and topics - 
Thanks! - we'll include your input in our planning.  If anyone has 
suggestions for meeting topics, activities, or would like to 
volunteer to give a presentation, please let us know!

5) The next meeting will be September 15, from 12 - 1:30 in the N42 
Demo Center.  Al will send mail with the agenda prior to the meeting.
