[Macinsloan] Printing on Sloan printers from a Mac

I grew too frustrated with STS who claim that they will not support
macs at all (even though the server side changes required for mac
printing are absurdly simple) because we are the minority ...
apparently minority groups are not worth supporting. I will include
some stats from a recent "Macpartners" thread listing the percentages
of MIT Grad students with Macs. Perhaps someone else can re-initiate
contact with STS on this topic and can quote these Stats. FTR, Sloan
is the ONLY school at MIT that doesn't support Macs and the main
campus technical support group was appalled when I had to go to them
for support once b/c of lack of support at Sloan. They could be a
useful ally if you endear yourself to them properly.
From Macpartners thread with subject "Percentages" initially started
on 10/16/2006:
2003
macintosh: 12%
windows: 88%
` linux: 0%
2004
macintosh: 15%
windows: 85%
linux: 0%
2005
macintosh: 25% (incoming 18%, switchers within first term boosted to
25%)
windows: 77%
linux: 0%
2006
macintosh: 46%
windows: 54%
linux: 0%
At 46% of students, we are barely a minority. I do believe these
numbers are somewhat lower at Sloan, but this is largely because of
the policy of non-support and I bet the trend will hold anyway.
I will forward STS's response to my request for support in a minute.
