UPS Endowed Professorship and Director of the Transportation Institute
Primary Purpose of Position:
North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T) seeks an accomplished researcher and innovative leader to serve as Director of the Transportation Institute in the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics. The Transportation Institute is an interdisciplinary research, training, and technology transfer unit that draws faculty, staff, and students from various departments within the Deese College of Business and Economics, the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Engineering, and throughout the entire University.
The Director reports to the Dean of the Deese College of Business and Economics and works closely with other faculty and administrators. The position is primarily responsible for providing leadership and management for the Institute, including acquiring and administering grants to support the programs of the Institute.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T State University has proudly maintained accreditation by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) since 1979. The Accounting accreditation has been in place since 1986. The most recent reaffirmation of accreditation occurred in 2016.
The leadership team for the Deese College includes the Dean, Associate Dean, five academic Chairpersons, the Assistant Dean of Student Success, the Assistant Dean/MBA Director, the Director of the Transportation Institute, about 14 administrative services staff and 2 technical services staff. A faculty of over 75 (70 tenured and tenure-track) teach in the Departments of Accounting and Finance, Business Information Systems and Analytics, Economics, Management, and Marketing and Supply Chain Management. Faculties are tasked with providing quality teaching and learning supported by relevant research and service. The student body consists of approximately 1,700 undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate degrees are awarded in Accounting, Business Information Technology, Economics, Finance, Management Information Systems, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain Management. The graduate degrees offered are the MBA and Master of Accountancy degrees.
The Transportation Institute
Established in 1970, the Transportation Institute has been a leader in transportation-related research, education, and technology transfer. Institute activities are intended to enhance student learning through education experiences in transportation, research, internships, professional meetings, scholarships and stipends. The institute also expands faculty research opportunities which provide funded release time, conference travel, and summer employment.
The mission of the Transportation Institute is to serve as a national, regional and local clearinghouse for transportation education, research and outreach; offering seminars, workshops, lectures, publications, and other information for public and private transportation practitioners, decision-makers and the general public.
The Institute educates students and professionals from diverse populations to provide qualified transportation professions in the workforce. The programs and activities conducted by the Institute are designed to provide ongoing initiatives in the areas of education, research, and workforce development. The Institute is a multidisciplinary unit that is dedicated to:
* Enhancing student learning and faculty development through educational experiences in transportation, research, internships, professional meetings, scholarships and stipends.
* Expanding faculty research opportunities through funded release time, conference travel and summer employment.
* Serving as a regional resource.
* Implementing programs that create an environment which fosters learning for the 21st century.
* Advancing diversity in the transportation workforce.

Minimum Requirements:
The Director must have demonstrated excellence in publishing scholarly research; the ability and willingness to obtain significant external funding; and experience in selecting, evaluating, promoting and retaining high quality staff and student workers.
Additionally, the Director must have exemplary communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, a consensus-building leadership style, and a commitment to student success. The Director must also be able to effectively manage the fiscal affairs of the Transportation Institute and maintain excellent working relationships with alumni and the local community.
The position requires an earned doctorate in a Transportation related discipline, preferably from an AACSB International accredited institution, or a master's degree and executive-level experience in transportation management.
A proven record of academic and professional achievement, commensurate with a tenure track appointment in the Deese College of Business and Economics is preferred, but a non-tenure track appointment is possible with appropriate professional experience and master's level academic background.
