CSCMP’s Academic Research Symposium (ARS) Call for Papers and Participation

You are invited to the Council of Supply Chain Management Professional's (CSCMP’s) 2018 Academic Research Symposium (ARS) (https://www.eiseverywhere.com/eSites/285180/About) , which will be held on Sunday, September 30 in Nashville, Tennessee, in conjunction with the CSCMP’s annual conference, EDGE (https://cscmpedge.org/ehome/index.php?eventid=276853&). This conference provides an excellent opportunity to meet with colleagues and share new research with top academics in the supply chain management discipline. In addition to the opportunity to reconnect with and confer with your colleagues, there are many additional ways to participate in this event. For instance, you are invited to submit a full-length research or teaching paper to be considered for symposium awards and full-length presentation. You are also invited to submit an abstract to report on teaching innovation or supply chain management research that is in progress. These abstracts will be considered for presentation during our expanded Poster Sessions. We also seek volunteers to develop and moderate expert panel sessions on timely and important topics that affect the supply chain management community at large. Symposium Details

• Research submissions are encouraged in the form of:

o      (1) Award Competitive Papers

o      (2) Teaching Innovation Papers

o      (3) Research Abstracts for Poster Presentation.



• The full-length (20 pages or less) Award Competitive Papers should report basic findings and contributions of the research endeavor. All research submissions will be evaluated on originality, clarity, research design, and theoretical and practical contribution. Accepted papers will be invited to present in a full session at the ARS and will be considered for the E. Grosvenor Plowman Award. Authors of full-length papers not accepted for presentation might be invited instead to present their research as a poster.



• Teaching Innovation Papers should also be no longer than 20 pages in length. These papers might include reporting of pedagogical techniques or methods, applied teaching case studies, experiential description of the use of new tools, or other innovative teaching methods. Teaching submissions will be evaluated for originality, clarity, and value of discussion of learning outcomes and will be considered for the Innovative Supply Chain Teaching Award. Authors of accepted papers will be invited to present their research in a full session at the ARS. Authors of full-length papers not accepted for presentation might be invited instead to present their research as a poster.



• Authors who are unlikely to have findings ready to present by the conference are highly encouraged to submit their work in progress (Research or Teaching) as a Research Abstract for Poster Presentation. These Abstracts should be five pages or less in length and include at least one figure that helps to describe critical ideas behind the research in progress. Consistent with the 2017 ARS, this year’s ARS will host dedicated poster sessions during the day of the symposium. Considering the overall positive feedback about the value of last year’s poster sessions, we are expanding this part of the conference as a means to improve how we share our research and solicit feedback. There will be a greater proportion of posters vs. full paper presentation this year compared to last. Top posters will be considered for display during the CSCMP EDGE conference.



Panels

The ARS Symposium Committee is in search of suggested expert panels of scholars, managers, and to discuss important topics of interest to the supply chain management community. Contact Ben Hazen (hazenscm at gmail.com) to propose your idea.



Reviewing and Other Service

The Symposium Committee requires two expert reviews for each submission. Although authors listed on each submission should expect to review at least one submission, it is always helpful to spread the workload more evenly across a diverse team of experts. Award Opportunities



E. Grosvenor Plowman

Only full-length research papers will be considered for the E. Grosvenor Plowman Award, which is awarded to the best research paper of the symposium. Extended research abstracts are also welcomed, but priority in the final program will be given to full-length papers, and space for abstracts could therefore be limited.



Innovative Supply Chain Teaching Award

The teaching innovation track also openly invites submissions, both full length or extended abstracts. These may include research papers on pedagogical techniques or methods, applied teaching case studies, innovative teaching methods, or experiential papers describing the use of new tools. Teaching submissions will be evaluated for originality, clarity, and value of discussion of learning outcomes. Papers submitted to the teaching innovations track will be considered for the Innovative Supply Chain Teaching Award.



Guidelines for Submissions

•      Authors can submit papers and abstracts before May 1st at: https://www.eiseverywhere.com/eSites/285180/Login%20or%20Create%20Account

•      All research track submissions must not have been published or accepted for publication in any journal or other outlet. The symposium committee will place all accepted research papers into appropriate research tracks according to primary topic.

•      Submissions should be formatted following The Journal of Business Logistics style and formatting guidelines. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/(ISSN)2158-1592/homepage/ForAuthors.html

•      The first page of any submission should contain the manuscript's title and complete author names, affiliations, and contact information. This first page will be dropped when the manuscript is sent out for review by the committee. The title should be repeated on the second page, which in turn should be followed by the abstract and body of the paper. Tables and figures can be incorporated into the body of the paper.

•       Authors should make every effort to include all references at the end of the paper. If this is not possible, authors have discretion to list “References available from the authors upon request,” or to truncate their reference listing as appropriate to fit paper length requirements.

•      All submissions will undergo a double-blind review.

•      Authors will be notified on or before June 30th, 2018 as to the final decision regarding their submission’s acceptance to the symposium.

•      Proceedings:  Authors of accepted works will be asked to make appropriate changes based on reviewer comments for the symposium proceedings prior to presentation. Authors will have the option to publish an abbreviated abstract and will receive a standardized abstract template when notified of acceptance.

•      Authors of each accepted paper or abstract will be asked to present at the Academic Research Symposium. At least one author must register for the Academic Research Symposium and agree to present.
