On April 6, 2017, The Finnish Transport Agency opened up over 1.8 Terabytes of data (2.5 million separate .CSV files) collected in the automatic traffic counting system TMS. The Finnish Transport Agency now offers open access to measurement data collected in the TMS system since 1995.

This is part of a wider effort by the Finnish Government to make publicly collected societal data available in the public domain. This includes, for example, large parts of meteorological, cartographic, sociological etc. data. One of the aims to provide such data platforms is to boost private sector innovations to various type of services and products.
