- Faculty Position Announcement in Amsterdam, the Netherlands-
VU University Amsterdam in the Netherlands invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor Logistics for the department Information Systems & Logistics within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.
The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEWEB) seeks to combine high quality education with excellent research. The Faculty offers three Dutch taught Bachelor’s programmes (Economics and Business Economics, Econometrics and Operations Research, and Business Administration), one English taught Bachelor’s programme (International Business Administration), eight English taught Master’s programmes and thirteen postgraduate programmes. The faculty has several research groups with an outstanding international reputation. FEWEB accommodates approximately 5000 students and 1500 postgraduate students. Over 500 staff members are employed at the Faculty.
The Bachelor- and Master studies in Business Administration are focused on the Service Industry. One of the seven specialisations is Transport & Supply Chain Management (TSCM). In the BSc program we focus on logistics problems of individual companies like manufacturers, retailers or logistics service providers. In the MSc program in TSCM the cooperation between those partners in the context of Demand driven Supply Chain Management is the dominant paradigm in both education and research. The Master TSCM program is relatively small scale with on average 30-40 students per year. All teaching is done in English.
Profile
You have a Ph.D. degree in an area related to Business Administration or Information Systems with concentration in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management or similar. You have a strong potential and ambition for teaching and research in physical distribution and service logistics. You have a background in business administration, economics, industrial engineering, logistics, operations management or operations research. You have research experience in distribution logistics, preferably with a focus on service industries, witnessed by international scientific publications.
For a position of associate professor we expect a strong publication record; an ability to initiate and build up a line of research, as shown for instance by a track record in PhD supervision and acquisition of external funding; and experience in teaching and curriculum management.
Tasks
• Teach and coordinate one or more courses offered by the department;
• Perform research in distribution logistics or related areas in the context of the research programme of the department;
• Supervision of bachelor and master theses;
• Contribution to the management of the department/faculty committees.
The assistant professor position is a tenure track position with an initial appointment for 2+4 years and the possibility of tenure. A tenure track position ensures that 40% of your time can be allocated to research. At the end of the second year a performance evaluation will take place, focused on deciding whether to extend the appointment for another 4 years. In the fifth year of the appointment the tenure decision will be taken.
If you are appointed as an associate professor, research time allocated depends on past publication records.
For both assistant professor and associate professor we prefer a full time employee (1.0 fte) but we are prepared to discuss 0.8 fte.
Please contact Dr. Karin de Smidt-Destombes (k.s.de.smidt- destombes at vu.nl) or Dr. Sander de Leeuw (sander.de.leeuw at vu.nl) for additional information.
