Subject: [Logprofs] Themed Issue in Theory Development, International Journal of Logistics Management
Themed Issue on Theory Development
The International Journal of Logistics Management (IJLM) will have a Themed Issue on theory development in business logistics. We are looking for insightful and skillfully designed conceptual manuscripts that describe, explain, or predict, phenomena observed in business logistics, or that challenge received traditions.
We are specifically interested in manuscripts that develop theory or facilitate the development of theory. Many different genres of manuscripts are welcome: creation of altogether new theories, provision of salient objections to existing theories, combination multiple existing theories in novel ways, or simply identification of new phenomena that have yet to be described, explained and predicted. Interdisciplinary approaches are also encouraged.
The appropriate length of the manuscript depends upon the magnitude of the contribution. Also, manuscripts that have broad and deep implications and applications will require more length to articulate these implications and applications.
For the Themed Issue, we are not interested in empirical tests of theories, case studies or any data analysis. Those manuscripts should be submitted to IJLM but not to the Themed Issue.
Potential topics include: Inventory management, forecasting, transportation, warehousing, order fulfillment, out-of-stocks, fill rates, material handling, cross functional integration with logistics, inter-firm logistics process integration, sustainability in logistics, logistics performance measurement, transshipments, network design, risk pooling, bullwhip, time-phased planning, sales & operations planning, vendor managed inventory, postponement, competition via logistics, collaboration, tacit coordination between firms in terms of logistics activities, lean logistics, mode and carrier selection, principal-agent issues in logistics, pricing logistics services, logistics technology, demand for logistics services, social welfare implications of logistics infrastructure, incomplete information in logistics, market signaling via logistics, optimal logistics contracts, and global logistics.
Manuscripts will either be sent out for review or desk rejected within one business day of submission.
Submit manuscripts to Matthew Waller, Editor at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ijlm by January 31, 2010, identifying the submission as being targeted for the Themed Issue in your letter to the Editor (do not submit it through the Special Issue link).
Deadline: January 31, 2010
Kind regards,
Matt
