Post-Doctoral Position in São Paulo State – Brazil
FAPESP (The State of São Paulo Research Agency) is currently recruiting a
post-doctoral researcher to work in a multidisciplinary successful team
engaged in the domain of Theory and Practice of Cutting and Packing
Problems, with special emphasis on modelling, solution methods and
applications.
Successful candidates should demonstrate interest and knowledge on some of
the following problems:
A. Cutting Stock Problems: Modelling, Solution Methods and Applications;
B. Special Cutting/Packing Patterns: Modelling, Solution Methods and
Applications;
C. Coupled Cutting Stock and Lot-Sizing Problems: Modelling, Solution
Methods and Applications;
D. Coupled Packing and Scheduling Problems: Modelling, Solution Methods and
Applications;
E. Container Loading Problems: Modelling, Solution Methods and Applications.
Candidates should be able to initiate independent research. There are no
teaching obligations but there will be invitations for lecturing on topics
related to candidate’s expertise in the scope of intensive advanced
courses (MSc and/or PhD level). Candidates are also expected to foster
extensive cooperation with international scientific communities.
The net value of the grant is approx. R$4500.00/month (approx.
€1650/month, or US$2400/month), for a period of 1 year, possibly
extendable for 2 years, starting November 2008 (acceptable delayed starting,
up to January 2009).
The city where the candidate is supposed to live can be either São Carlos
(and work at Universidade de São Paulo –USP, or Universidade Federal de
São Carlos - UFSCar) or São José dos Campos (and work at National Space
Research Institute - INPE). Both are medium-size cities in the state of São
Paulo.
The selection is documental and based on the following items:
(1) An application letter addressed to Prof. Marcos Arenales, stating the
underlying reasons of the application;
(2) Detailed curriculum vitae;
(3) At least two references, with their emails;
(4) Copy of the two main published/accepted papers.
