The Department of Management, Marketing and Logistics (MM&L) in the  
College of Business Administration invites nominations and  
applications for the position of Department Chair at either the  
associate or full professor rank.

Georgia Southern University, an institution of the University System  
of Georgia, and a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University, is the  
largest and most comprehensive center of higher education in the  
southern half of Georgia. Georgia Southern. A residential university  
serving 16,841 students in fall 2007, Georgia Southern’s hallmark is a

superior undergraduate experience emphasizing academic distinction,  
excellent teaching, and student

success. Founded in 1906, the University offers 118 degree programs at  
the baccalaureate, master’s, and

doctoral levels through eight colleges. The 675-acre campus is located  
in Statesboro, a Main Street community of

approximately 30,000 residents, 50 miles northwest of historic  
Savannah, and 200 miles southeast of

Atlanta.



The Department of MM&L consists of 29 faculty and 2 staff members. The  
department offers majors in management, marketing, and logistics.  
Faculty members are very active in the profession and conduct pure,  
applied, and pedagogical research. Faculty also engage in service  
activities throughout the region.

Position Description. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Business  
Administration, the Chair will serve on the Administrative Group, be  
responsible for departmental administration, and focus heavily on  
visibility efforts with the business community. The position is a 12- 
month appointment with a salary that is competitive and commensurate  
with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

•                 Earned doctorate from an AACSB, or EQUIS, accredited  
institution in management, marketing, logistics, or supply chain;

•                 Academically Qualified under AACSB guidelines;

•                 Record of scholarship, teaching, and professional  
service commensurate with the rank of professor* or associate  
professor**;

•                 Collaborative leadership style with an appreciation  
for the principles of shared governance;

•                 Evidence of successful interaction with the business  
community;

•                 Effective communication and organizational skills.



*For appointment at the professor rank, a minimum of 8 years college/ 
university teaching experience is required (at least 5 of which are at  
the associate professor level) along with a strong record of research  
and service with substantial publications and presentations in  
professional venues.

**For appointment at the associate professor rank, a minimum of 4  
years college/university teaching experience at the assistant  
professor rank required plus a strong record of research and service  
with publications and presentations in professional venues.

Preferred Qualifications:

•                 Evidence of successful academic administrative  
ability and effectiveness;

•                 Experience in the development and management of  
graduate programs;

•                 Experience with online delivery of academic courses  
and programs;

•                 Evidence of successful fundraising and/or grant  
writing experience.



Screening of applications begins November 10, 2008, and continues  
until the position is filled. The position starting date is July 1,
