International Journal of Logistics Management

TOPIC: Missing Scales in Business Logistics

For a themed issue designed to highlight new scales in business logistics, the International Journal of Logistics Management calls for papers that present new scales, whether reflective or formative, and that employ careful scale development and validation techniques. Short papers are encouraged. Manuscripts may develop only one scale and do not need to include a check for nomological validity, a step that may be left to theory testing papers. For a list of some scales used in logistics, please see “A Summary and Analysis of Multi-Item Scales Used in Logistics Research” by Scott B. Keller, Katrina Savitskie, Theodore P. Stank, Daniel F. Lynch, and Alexander E. Ellinger in Journal of Business Logistics (2002, Vol. 23, Issue 2, p. 83). Scales may pertain to topics traditionally outside the logistics realm as long as the manuscript demonstrates that such scales are applicable to logistics. Authors should assume that readers understand scale development and validation techniques and do not need to explain them in great detail. Manuscripts should reference other publications in the field of business logistics that demonstrate the need for the proposed scale or that use related scales. All manuscripts must include the items used in the scales, a brief but comprehensive literature review (i.e., concisely reference all articles relevant to the construct that the scale is purported to measure), and tables reporting the measures of reliability and validity. The Concluding Discussion section of submitted manuscripts should be short, because the focus of the manuscripts should be on the constructs and scales. Authors are welcome to make multiple submissions. Reviewers will be familiar with these instructions given to authors.
