 Research Fellow in Management Science

Salary: £25,134 - £30,913

School of Management - University of Southampton

We wish to appoint a Research Fellow to work in a project related to developing mathematical models for the design of "green" intermodal transportation service networks. The research fellow will primarily work with Dr Tolga Bektas at the School of Management, in collaboration with the Centre for Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems

(http://www.cormsis.soton.ac.uk/ <http://www.cormsis.soton.ac.uk/> ) at the University of Southampton, UK, and the NSERC Industrial Research Chair on Logistics Management

(http://www.chairecrsnglogistique.uqam.ca/index.asp <http://www.chairecrsnglogistique.uqam.ca/index.asp> ) held by Dr Teodor G Crainic at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), Canada. This is an excellent opportunity for the appointee to meet and work together with a larger group of senior researchers and graduate students both at CORMSIS and UQAM. CORMSIS has recently won an EPSRC Science and Innovation award of £1m, as part of a consortium of OR groups in four universities awarded £5m in total (http://www.cormsis.soton.ac.uk/news/default.php <http://www.cormsis.soton.ac.uk/news/default.php> ). One of the key research strands in this project is green logistics, and the appointee will have the opportunity to be a part of this specific research agenda within the consortium.

You should have a PhD in management science or operational research, with proficiency in mathematical modelling (integer programming, in specific) and applications to transportation and logistics, as well as strong programming skills (in C, C++ or a similar programming language). Evidence of ability to publish in high-quality research journals is a plus. The appointee may be required and should be willing to travel to Montreal during the course of the project to collaborate with colleagues at UQAM.

The post is available for an immediate start for 9 months and should be taken up no later than 1 May 2008. Extension may be possible upon availability of further funding.

For informal enquiries or further information, please contact Dr Tolga Bektas at T.Bektas at soton.ac.uk.

Please include a full CV and two letters of support with your application.

For further information about the post and application details see http://www.jobs.soton.ac.uk <http://www.jobs.soton.ac.uk/> or http://www.jobs.ac.uk/jobs/RM199/Research_Fellow_in_Management_Science/ <http://www.jobs.ac.uk/jobs/RM199/Research_Fellow_in_Management_Science/> .

The closing date for applications is 15 April at 12 noon. Please quote reference number 2139-08-l on all correspondence
