Faculty Position in Logistics & Supply Chain Management
             MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program (Spain)

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Zaragoza Logistics
Center (ZLC) in Spain have partnered to create the MIT-Zaragoza International
Logistics Program for education and research in logistics & supply chain
management. The Government of Aragón, the region with Zaragoza as its
capital, is seeking an individual with excellent credentials to lead research
efforts in the MIT-Zaragoza program, as one of 12 tenure-track research
positions in different fields being funded through the research organization
Aragón I+D.

The Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) is an innovative institute founded in 2003
by the Government of Aragón, the University of Zaragoza, industry partners,
and the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics. The ZLC, recently named by
the Ministry of Education and Science in Spain as the National Center of
Excellence for research in logistics and supply chain management, offers a
unique opportunity to create new laboratory environments with ample space in a
building being constructed in the middle of PLAZA, the largest logistics park
in Europe. Through the MIT-Zaragoza program, ZLC faculty have active
collaboration with MIT researchers and students, including joint projects and
sabbatical opportunities.

Faculty are expected to conduct high quality research in collaboration with
industry and government; supervise theses; publish in top international
journals; participate in outreach activities; and teach master’s, doctoral,
and executive courses in English. The teaching load for ZLC faculty is minimal
to reflect its focus on research.

Requirements include a PhD in supply chain management, transportation,
logistics, operations management, information systems, engineering, economics,
business, or a related discipline. Relevant experience in industry, applied
research, or EU projects is a plus. Spanish language skills are not required
since teaching and research in the MIT-Zaragoza program are normally conducted
in English. Candidates should demonstrate ability to lead international
research initiatives and are expected to have at least six years of
postdoctoral experience and published articles in internationally recognized
journals.

Successful candidates have a permanent contract with Aragon I+D, while carrying
out their activity in the ZLC. The position is of a tenure-track type, with a
performance assessment after three years. Salaries will be commensurate with
the experience and potential of the candidates and will therefore be negotiated
individually. Start-up research packages may also be arranged. Aragon I+D will
assist with visa and work permit procedures.

Candidates should submit their application electronically to Aragón I+D
according to information on its web page (http://www.araid.es). Please send an
e-mail to araid at araid.es with your cover letter mentioning this specific
position, a completed application form, and a copy of your curriculum vitae.
Also ask two scientists to send a letter of appraisal to the same email
address. Download the application form at:
http://www.araid.es/en/inscripcion.pdf. If you have any specific questions
about the position, please contact Jarrod Goentzel (goentzel at mit.edu). Review
of applicants begins September 11th, 2006.

The ZLC is a culturally diverse teaching and research environment and provides
equal opportunity for all applicants. Applications from women and minorities
are encouraged.
