taught by Jan Marie!

Saturday, February 23, 2013, 1:30pm - 5:00pm
MIT Building 36, room 112
http://whereis.mit.edu/?go=36

For ladies and gentlemen who want to be the Popeyes and
Olive Oils of modern America... this is the workshop for
you! Jan Marie will give you all the boppity boops, fancy
footwork, and improv techniques you'll need to wow the great
Gatsby and become the modern cat's meow.

NO PREVIOUS DANCE EXPERIENCE ASSUMED! Workshops appropriate
for dancers of all levels.

1:30 - 2:30 | Solo Charleston: Balancing The Bounce

A perfect Charleston begins with perfect balance and a
steady pulse. Then we'll add on basic footwork variations,
including kicks, as well as arm variations. Then we'll work
on traveling, rotation, one-legged movements, and syncopated
rhythm variations.

2:40 - 3:40 | Solo Charleston: Beyond The Bounce

Here you'll take the kicks you learned and turn them into
kick-throughs, your knee lifts into knee slaps, your kick
downs into push kicks, and more! We will also learn to
incorporate other classic 20's movements such as the Suzie
Q, Bee's Knees, and Hallelujahs.

3:50 - 4:50 | Partnered Charleston: Two Bodies, One Bounce

Putting everything you've learned thus far together with a
mirror image. We'll learn how to connect in a comfortable
but controlled frame, to move gracefully with a partner, and
to give and read signals of change in direction, rotation,
and vernacular.

4:50 - 5:00 | Q&A

Question and answer session.
