Put Some Blues In Your Swing: Workshops with Jan Marie!

   For any swing dancer who wants to learn blues, or who knows swing &
   blues but can't quite seem to put them together, these are the
   workshops for you!

What Makes The Blues, The Blues (1-2 p.m.)

   Whether you're new to blues or a seasoned veteran, you'll leave this
   class with a solid set of blues fundamentals. In this hour-long class
   we will cover proper posture, pulse, patterning, and partnering, and
   contrast what we learn of blues with what we already know of swing.

Blues That Swings (2:15-3:15 p.m.)

   Music "too fast" to blues to? Nonsense! We'll do a run-through of some
   of Jan Marie's favorite crossover blues movements, so that no matter
   how swingin' the band gets, you can still stay true to your newfound
   blues roots.

Same Moves, Different Mood (3:30-4:30 p.m.)

   No need for new "blues moves"--sometimes changing the mood is all about
   execution. For swing dancers of all levels, we'll learn how to use our
   pre-existing bag of swing tricks in a blues context. We'll take a more
   in-depth look at blues styling and how to adapt it to the swing moves
   we already know. Be prepared to put the gush in our pushes, the grit in
   our digs, and the lag in our drag.

Feedback/Q&A (4:30-5 p.m.)

   Jan Marie will be sticking around for an extra half-hour to answer any
   lingering questions you have about class content! Feel free to stay and
   dance amongst yourselves, get feedback, and ask any questions you need.

About Jan Marie:

   Whether dancing, teaching, organizing, or singing a ditty or two, Jan
   Marie has been active in the blues & swing communities for the past six
   years. As a teacher, Jan Marie focuses on helping students develop
   self-awareness, musical movement, and communicative connection-- rather
   than just patterns and steps. She strives to empower students to define
   and assert their own dance voices in partnered movement.
