BOSTON'S TOP TWO BIG BAND SWING BANDS TO DO BATTLE
Get ready - this Friday is the huge Battle of the Big Bands,
with the Beantown Swing Orchestra vs. the White Heat Swing
Orchestra!
The White Heat Swing Orchestra, consisting of older and
experienced musicians, was the house band at the Roxy
Ballroom on Tremont Street for almost five years during the
swing dance craze of the 1990s.
The Beantown Swing Orchestra is a newer ensemble consisting
primarily of students and recent graduates of Berklee
College of Music and New England Conservatory of Music, with
an average of 23 and a fierce competitiveness. "We're going
to bring on the heat and take down the Heat," proclaimed
Katie Thiroux, Beantown Swing Orchestra's 20-year-old
bassist.
Both bands not only perform regularly at events such as
swing dances, corporate parties, wedding receptions, and
fundraisers, but each has had a taste of Hollywood as well.
The White Heat Swing Orchestra performed on the soundtrack
to the Warner Brothers film "Dick Tracy," while the Beantown
Swing Orchestra will appear in and perform on the soundtrack
to the upcoming Lions Gate movie "My Best Friend's Girl," to
be released in theaters on September 19.
The event is the headliner for the second annual Boston
Independence Exchange (BIX2), a four-day swing dance event
featuring live bands and DJs at various venues in Boston,
Cambridge, Somerville, and Arlington. More information can
