The water has been back on for some time now. Thanks, everyone, for your patience.
Oh, and by the way, would anyone like to volunteer the use of their shower for me tomorrow morning and Sunday morning? I just found out that the coating the contractor applied to my tub takes more than 2 days to dry!! DOH! lol

David,
You make a good point. However, you are making assumptions that I am not willing to make as I warn residents about the worst-case scenario of water shut-off. You are assuming that the first valve we buy will be the correct size and type, will work properly, will fit in the space we have to work with, and will remain 100% water tight during the entire coating replacement and drying time. Please just have some faith that we will do everything we can to minimize the water service downtime, while making sure the project gets done right the first time and the contractor is out of there as fast as possible.
Thanks, and I'll send out another email Friday after water service is restored.

Tom,
It seems like you'd only need to turn off the water during the part where you're replacing the pipes. That is, you could:
1. tear out ceramic tiles
2. valve off the water
3. replace piping behind the
ceramic tiles
4. turn
the water back on
5. replace the bathtub's coating that has chipped away due
to the incessant dripping
6. allow time for the new coating to dry
7. replace the ceramic tiles
rather than:
1. valve off the water
2. tear out ceramic tiles
3. replace piping behind the
ceramic tiles
4. replace the bathtub's coating that has chipped away due
to the incessant dripping
5. allow time for the new coating to dry
6. turn
the water back on
7. replace the ceramic tiles
Don't you think?

The faucet in my bathtub is dripping significantly. We're going to valve off the water, tear out ceramic tiles, replace piping behind the ceramic tiles, replace the bathtub's coating that has chipped away due to the incessant dripping, allow time for the new coating to dry, turn the water back on, then finally replace the ceramic tiles. Again, we hope and intend to restore water service before 6:00 pm Friday, but I'd like people to be aware of the situation. The problem is that there are not 17 individual water valves for 17 individual condo units; thus, a project like this requires a shut-off of the main building water line.

Is it really going to take 8.5 hours? This seems like a long stretch to be without water. What is the nature of the project?

Hello everyone,
We have scheduled a plumbing project in my unit that will require a
shut-off of the water service to the building. It will happen from
9:30 am to 6:00 pm this coming Friday, December 11. If the project
goes smoothly, we will make every effort to restore water service as
early as possible. However, you should plan to be without water during
this time period.
Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience.
Happy Holidays,
Tom Brinkmann
