NEWS

EXPANDING HORIZONS THROUGH ART, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
HELP SUPPORT THE LEONARDO/ISAST COMMUNITY
Where else can you learn about cybernetic bacteria, digital swarms
and virtual haptics in one place? Since 1968 Leonardo has supported
the art/sci/tech community in its quest to expand the horizons of
what we know and experience. Now it's time to give back. Remember
that donations to Leonardo/ISAST provide critical support for
Leonardo programs, such as the Leonardo Educators and Students
Program and the popular monthly LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening
Rendezvous) series. Leonardo/ISAST is a 501(c)3 non-profit
organization that relies on the support of its community. Find out more

PUBLICATIONS

COMING SOON: LMJ 21
BEYOND NOTATION: COMMUNICATING MUSIC
Peer-to-peer file exchange, the iTunes store, MySpace, Pandora – by
2011 it's obvious that the Internet has radically transformed the
economy and culture of selling, distributing, owning and hearing
recorded music. Less discussed is the Web's impact on that part of
music that used to be called "the score"– instructions, suggestions
and materials for performing, rather than consuming, music. Software
required to play interactive computer music can be downloaded
directly from composers' websites as easily as a score can be checked
out of a library, and the iPhone has fostered yet another realm of
publishing: Bands sell apps that allow fans to make personal remixes
of their singles, while another popular app lets you play your phone
like an ocarina as you jam with other players around the globe. Find
