Stanford University is now hosting bi-monthly convenings of the
Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous (LASER) series. Join us at
Stanford University for the next LASER, Wednesday, 3 August 2011.
Feature presentations include "Massively Seeking Susan: Connecting
Strangers Through Gameplay" by Ken Eklund; "Space-Time Traveling in
the Here and Now: How Did We Get Here and What's Next?" by Jonathan
Trent; "The Simultaneous Opposites Engine" by Robert Edgar; and
"Dynamic Form" by Cindy Stokes. Find out more
LEONARDO AT SIGGRAPH 2011
7-11 AUGUST 2011, VANCOUVER, CANADA
SIGGRAPH 2011, in collaboration with Leonardo/ISAST, features artists
and artwork while also examining artists’ processes, theoretical
frameworks for art-making, and the context of art in society. Authors
of the SIGGRAPH 2011 Art Papers will present their work in 20-minute
sessions with five minutes of Q&A on Tuesday, 9 August 2011,
9:00-10:30 a.m. at the SIGGRAPH 2011 conference in Vancouver. The Art
Papers, as well as visual documentation of the works exhibited in the
SIGGRAPH 2011 Art Gallery Tracing Home, will be published in a
special issue of Leonardo (Vol. 44, No. 4) to be released in
conjunction with the SIGGRAPH conference. SIGGRAPH 2011 attendees are
invited to attend the special issue release reception on Tuesday, 9
August 2011, 2-3:30 p.m. in the Art Gallery. Find out more

LEONARDO EDUCATION & ART FORUM WELCOMES NEW CHAIR ADREINNE KLEIN
Leonardo Education & Art Forum (LEAF) is delighted to welcome
Adrienne Klein as incoming Chair. Adrienne is Director of Special
Projects and co-Director of Science & the Arts in the Office of
Research and Sponsored Programs at The Graduate Center of the City
University of New York. In this capacity, she has been the principal
organizer of over 140 presentations of theater, art, music, dance and
film that bridge the worlds of art and science. These public events
range from conferences and concerts to science demonstrations on the
streets of New York. In addition, her artwork has been shown in solo
and group exhibitions in the United States and Europe. Klein joins
Patricia Olynyk and Joseph Lewis in the administration of LEAF
activities including the upcoming "Transdisciplinary Visual Arts,
Science & Technology Renewal Post-New Media Assimilation" workshops
at Rewire and ISEA 2011. Find out more

NICOLAS COLLINS ON LMJ'S 20TH ANNIVERSARY ISSUE
Nicolas Collins, Editor-in-Chief of Leonardo Music Journal and chair
of the Sound Department at the School of the Art Institute of
Chicago, talks about the 20th anniversary issue of LMJ and its theme,
improvisation, in Episode 10 of the MIT Press podcast series. In the
podcast, Nic explains how he chose the theme and shares insights
about putting the issue together, as well as about how improvisation
and composition have evolved during his tenure as editor of LMJ. Find
