The Dubai Initiative - An Invitation for Fellowship Applications for 2008-2009.

Application Deadline: January 15, 2008

The Dubai Initiative, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University
offers funding for full-year and half-year, pre- and post-doctoral research
fellowships as well as senior fellowships, with a possibility for renewal.
Applications for fellowships are welcome from recent recipients of the Ph.D. or
equivalent degree, university faculty members, and employees of government,
international, humanitarian, and private research institutions with appropriate
professional experience. Candidates for pre-doctoral fellowships are required to
have passed their general examinations prior to appointment.

The Dubai Initiative focuses on research related to the Middle East to
complement the interests of the Belfer Center and those of the Dubai School of
Government (DSG), and offers fellowships at the Belfer Center as well as
opportunities for joint fellowships with the DSG which may require the fellow
to spend a certain amount of time in Dubai. We welcome applications from
political scientists, policy practitioners, lawyers, economists, and those in
the natural sciences who are either conducting research about the Middle East
on the issues of governance, public policy, administration and management,
gender studies, economic policy and political science. We encourage
applications from women, minorities, and citizens of all countries.

The Dubai Initiative fellows are expected to devote a portion of their time on
collaborative research, as arranged by the Initiative, with the DSG. Fellowships
will be awarded based on specific research deliverables (developing research
strategy, contributing to a working paper series, and conducting research on a
topic of interest to the fellow and the Initiative) negotiated between the
Initiative and the Dubai School of Government research offices. Research
fellows looking to write a book or in the process of completing a book can
receive funding to complete it based on the area of research focus and progress
on the work. Pre- and post-doctoral research fellows are expected to contribute
to both the Initiative as well as the Center's research activities and
pre-doctoral fellows are encouraged to work on - and ideally complete - their
doctoral dissertations.

We also coordinate DSG fellowship appointments for scholars to be in residence
at DSG full time and spend a small portion of their fellowship term at KSG.
These are reviewed on a case by case basis by DSG senior researchers. If
interested in applying directly to the Dubai School of Government please note
your intention in an application directed to the Dubai Initiative and your
application will be forwarded to Dubai. Selection of DSG Fellows will be
handled by the offices at the Dubai School of Government.

Fellowship applicants must indicate that they are applying to The Dubai
Initiative. All information related to stipend (we do offer half year and full
year fellowships), application procedures and deadlines are described in detail
