Hi, I hoped you might want to sign this petition calling for the UN General Assembly to bring about an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, Israel, and Gaza. Petition for an Emergency United Nations Resolution on Lebanon, Israel, and Gaza
To Bring About an Immediate Unconditional Cease-Fire in Lebanon, Israel, and Gaza

We, the undersigned,

Deploring the current bombing and invasion of Lebanon by foreign forces as an act of aggression in violation of the United Nations Charter and international law; 

Concerned by the Security Council's failure to condemn the current bombing and invasion of Lebanon and to call for an immediate unconditional cease-fire to end the bombing of Lebanon, the rocket attacks on Israeli cities and towns, and the military attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in Gaza; 

Further concerned by actions of the United States and the United Kingdom to obstruct efforts to bring about an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon, Israel, and Gaza; 

Troubled by the humanitarian crisis, violations of human rights, and destruction and recognizing the urgent need for international assistance to the Lebanese people and the Palestinian people in Gaza; 

Since the Security Council, because of lack of unanimity of the permanent members, has failed to to halt the threat to peace, we call upon all Member States of the United Nations to immediately convene an Emergency Meeting of the General Assembly, under the provisions of General Assembly Resolution 377 (V), Uniting for Peace, to act to bring about an immediate unconditional cease-fire, and to enforce the obligations of states and armed groups to comply with international law; and furthermore,

To mandate immediate cooperation of all nations in the cessation of armed attacks by all parties; the immediate withdrawal of the occupying forces; the coordination, by the United Nations, of the response to the humanitarian disaster in Lebanon and Gaza, with particular attention to provision of medical care, food and restoration of water and electricity supplies; and furthermore,

To enforce the obligations of the invading forces under the provisions of the Hague Regulations, Geneva Conventions and other applicable international agreements; to prevent the further destruction of Lebanon and Gaza's infrastructure; to provide for full reparation to the Lebanese people and Palestinian people in Gaza for damages caused and precipitated by the unlawful use of military force; and to ensure the removal of cluster bombs and un-detonated munitions.

The Supplication Service to the Most Holy Theotokos
For Those Suffering in Lebanon
Wednesday, 9 August at 7 p.m.

The Supplication Service is offered for the welfare of the living, especially 
those who are suffering and oppressed. It is addressed to the Most Holy 
Theotokos or a Saint whose intercessions are sought through the chanting of 
supplicatory prayers and other hymns. The most popular Supplication Service is that 
in which the prayers and hymns are addressed to the Most Holy Mother of God for 
a special intention.
The Supplicatory Hymns to the Most Holy Theotokos was authored by 
Theosterictus the Monk (9th century), and prayed in Constantinople during times of 
invasion, siege  and civil strife.  It has been prayed since then as a comfort 
during times of civil unrest. 
On Wednesday, we will offer these prayers and hymns for the restoration of 
peace and on behalf of the innocent victims who are suffering in Lebanon.  
Commemoration of the local Saints of the region will be made.  Special prayers will 
be included for the memory of those who died in the current conflict.

Hi! Many have shown interest in watching Lebanon playing in the coming
basketball world cup that starts this friday. It's a great opportunity for us
to see our Lebanese squad playing against very strong and famous basketball
teams that have many players in the NBA.

Here is a link of the page showing all the channels broadcasting this world cup:

for sure. So does anyone know a place where we can watch Aljazeera Sports? Or
how can we subscribe to it? If subscribing to Aljazeera Sports is not possible,
what about all the other channels on that list? Is any of them showing Lebanon's
games?

The first game of Lebanon is this Friday on 10:20pm (Eastern Time). We will be
playing against Venezuela. It will be great to get together, watch the game,
have some drinks, and celebrate the end of the war! Please reply back to
lebanon-events at mit.edu so we all get updated at the same time.

Jumptv only shows aljazeera news. There is a way to subscrive on 
fiba2006.com to
watch the world cup live on the internet, but we will keep that as the last
option because the quality of internet streaming is far from that of the TV
broadcasting.

The only way to watch Lebanon games is on the internet. Today's game 
was at 6am!
It was great! Next game is late tonight (Thursday 3am). If anyone is

August 26th.  There will be a drop off box for medical supplies at the 
event, so if anyone would like to bring items along, feel free!  This 
will be a wonderful event (great food and music) so please try to make

Dear all,

Please find attached two documents describing a huge fundraiser for Lebanon, to
take place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on November 21st.  Although most
of us in the Boston area may not be attending, we can still be of great
assistance to Wafa Kanan, the organizer.

She is currently looking for sponsorships, and has requested that people who
work in different companies inquire about whether or not they would be willing
to sponsor the event.  Companies being consulted include Pepsi, L'Oreal,
Procter and Gamble, etc...  Also, if any of you are in touch with performers
who may be willing to offer their time and talent at this event, please let her
know.

The event aims to be a MASSIVE one - raising $10 million total, drawing
worldwide media attention to the humanitarian situation in Lebanon, while
attracting very influential people, artists, musicians, actors and actresses.
