Using path can be unreliable and a security hole.
So silly people have "." in their path and that is a bad idea.
Having a tool depend on path means you have to trust the users

Look for the unix find command in a list of directories instead of in
one place.  This way Jeff can install cygwin in c:\tools\cygwin and Ken
have it in C:\cygwin.  The two places in the list are for those two
possibilities.  c:\cygwin\bin and c:\tools\cygwin\bin.

Why not just search the PATH?
