The 'hint' in krb5_cc_new is optional.  The 'residual' in krb5_cc_resolv 
  is mandatory.  krb5_cc_new always generates a new ccache with a unique
name.  krb5_cc_resolv only returns the ccache of the specified name.

I don't see why the inclusion of the 'hint' would make things more 
confusing.
