Auth speed: UW IMAP + PAM + Kerberos

One obvious test to try is to build the newer version to talk directly to 
Kerberos (by this, I assume you mean that you're using CHECKPW=krb) 
instead of PAM and see if it makes a difference.

imap-2003 was never released as an official version.  The current release 
version is imap-2004, and is on:
 	ftp://ftp.cac.washington.edu/mail/imap.tar.Z
