Actually, I wrote too quickly, I know autofs implements NFS.  Brain fart.
As for the AFS, very nice.  Maybe when my little network grows up I may have
use for it.  Thanks for the info.

Not even close :)

AFS is a distributed file system. Hopefully no one will slap me for this
simplicity, but in my eyes it's "NFS with Kerberos based authentication
and security".

Ie, it's encrypted...


AutoFS is 'automatically mount a file system on demand'..
