Setting up slave kdc

When setting up a slave KDC, I issue the command "kdb5_util stash".  I'm then prompted for the master key.  Afterwards, I get this error:

stash: Message size is incompatible with encryption type while verifying master key

Any idea what this means or how I could remedy it?
