newbie needs help!!!

Hello,
I scaned this group but, I did not see any questions or answers for my
situation.
I am trying to setup Kerberos and I am having lots of problems with building
the gnu tools.
I am running Red Hat 7.2.
I make the tools in the following order:
bison, make, and binutils.
When I get to making the gnu C complier I use this command
 ./configure --with-gnu-as
Next I use make LANGUAGES=c  this usually causes and error (Error 1).
It has worked once, or so I thought.
Next I have tried to create stage 1 by make stage 1
This has never worked.
Can someone please help me with this/these issues or at least point me in
the correct direction.
