From pwilkins at MIT.EDU Wed Jan 23 17:46:39 2008 From: pwilkins at MIT.EDU (Peter Wilkins) Date: Wed, 23 Jan 2008 17:46:39 -0500 Subject: [Image-tools] Hands-on event to learn VUE - 1/25/07 from 10AM to noon Message-ID: You are invited to attend an event presented at MIT to learn to use VUE hands-on. The event is part of MIT's Independent Activities Period (IAP) where events of various sorts are held for members of the MIT community and their friends. (That's you.) The event is scheduled for this Friday, January 25, from 10 AM to noon. It will be held on the MIT campus in a computer cluster in building 37. (A map link is provided below.) VUE (the Visual Understanding Environment) is a Mellon Foundation funded project to create a content mapping tool. This second version of VUE can deliver its content maps as full-screen presentations, richer and more flexible access to remote image repositories, semantic tools (RDF support), and LMS integration. VUE is open-source and runs on Java supported platforms. You can download it here: http://vue.tufts.edu/ (get the VUE 2.0 Beta). This is a link to the IAP site posting, the text of which is reproduced below. http://student.mit.edu/searchiap/iap-8748.html Here is a map indicating the location of the event: http://whereis.mit.edu/map-jpg?selection=37 ----< snip >--- Using VUE to Map and Visualize Content from MIT's Image Repositories Melanie St.James (Ed.M.) member of the VUE's development team at Tufts University Fri Jan 25, 10am-12:00pm, 37-312 No enrollment limit, no advance sign up Single session event During this hands-on session, you will learn how to use VUE to create "concept/content maps" that can help you visualize content and relationships by tapping into MIT's image repositories such as the Rotch Visual Collection, OCW and Visualizing Culture's Black Ships and Samurai Collections. The VUE tool was created with teaching, learning and research in mind. Come explore how this free, open-source software can help you find new ways to access and visualize digital content. Melanie St.James (Ed.M.) is a member of the VUE's development team at Tufts University and consults with faculty, students and staff on integrating educational technologies in their work.
