Not sure which version of the framework you're using but I have a news module based on the v0.9 code. Outside of templates I'm not sure there's a huge difference between v0.9 and v2.0 so it might still work for you even if you have v2.0. Check out my code:

Note that there's a bug in that code if two stories have the same title. I fixed that in a later release of my own code but just a heads up that it isn't fixed in my v0.9 copy.
