Greetings!
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer. I would like to propose a
conference call next week to sync up with the various mobility related
activities at member schools.
If you are interested in participating, please use the Doodle page to
indicate your availability:
http://www.doodle.com/4vbsesvdw2rpib92
The tentative agenda is as follows:
1. Brief Introduction
2. Question: MIT License or GPL? Which would foster collaboration?
Does it matter?
3. What are you working on?
4. How can we collaborate on building and improving mobile applications?
5. What are the main issues related to mobility and how can we work
together to collectively get the vendors to act? (e.g. Students get
less discount than faculty and staff, AT&T Coverage, the official
Exchange data pricing for the iPhone for students, exorbitant BES
charges for students for VZW and AT&T, iPhone certificate bug, etc.)
6. Want to set up one or two day conference in the fall? Virtual or
physical meeting?
Just to give you a brief update on what MIT has been working on...
1. Mobile Web:
- Browser Detection 2.0: Enhanced device classification (WebKit --
iPhone, Android, and webOS, TouchUI, Basic)
- Enhanced user interface for all platforms
- Personalization of Stellar (MIT's Course Management System) using
Cookies
- Certificate support for the iPhone (TechCASH application is the
first to use this new feature)
2. MIT SMS:
- Added Events Calendar and Emergency News
3. iPhone Native App:
- Internally developed using student developers
- Prototype to be finished by the end of August
- Modules include: People Directory, Campus Map, Shuttle, Stellar
(LMS), Emergency,
- Features: Push Notification, Local Storage of Map Images, Stellar
Announcements,
- Usage of mobi server as the data conduit for the native application.
Please feel free to suggest other topics and items.
Cheers,
Andrew
