Subject: STS teaching opportunity at Colby College, Jan-May 2026
To: <brownkl at mit.edu<mailto:brownkl at mit.edu>>
Dear Professor Brown,
I am writing in regard to a teaching opportunity I’m hiring for in the STS Department at Colby College<https://www.colby.edu/academics/departments-and-programs/science-technology-and-society/> in Waterville, Maine, between January and May 2026. I was wondering if you might have any advanced PhD candidates or postdoctoral fellows at MIT who would be interested in discussing this opportunity with me.
The Department has been approved to hire a part-time lecturer to teach the following:
(1) 4-week course in Colby’s January session, which typically meets 3-4 days/week
(2) 14-week courses in Colby’s spring semester, one of which should be an introduction to STS and the other an STS elective of the instructor’s choice
Pay is excellent and based on experience. Unfortunately, however, we are unable to offer benefits with this short-term position. It would be possible for someone to drop the January courses from their contract, or teach just one course in the spring. But we think there would be tremendous benefit in offering all three courses, and we would be able to offer a modest research stipend from departmental funds with such a 3-course contract.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Tanya
