Please circulate widely!

By late next week I expect to announce a search for a full-time Lecturer in the Program in Science, Technology & Society at Stanford University, starting August 2023. This position will be for 2-3 years and may be renewable.

If you have (or know of) graduating or recent PhDs seeking positions for next year, please let them know!

Details of this position are still being determined, but here’s what I know so far:

  * The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in STS (Science & Technology Studies or equivalent), or a closely related field such as History, Anthropology, Sociology, or Media Studies with a focus on science and/or technology.
  * PhD must be in hand by September 1; no ABDs please.
  * 5 courses/year. (Stanford is on the quarter system, with each quarter lasting 10 weeks plus an exam period. 5 courses in the quarter system is a slightly lower overall load than 4 courses in the semester system.)
  * 2 of these 5 courses will be as teaching staff in our Preventing Human Extinction course, part of Stanford’s COLLEGE sequence for frosh. Other postdoctoral teaching fellows make up the rest of the teaching staff. One prep for both courses, with admin support.
  * At least 2 of the remaining 3 courses will be capstones for graduating seniors in the STS Program.
  *   Start date: August 1, 2023

I’ll send the formal job announcement as soon as it’s available.

Potential candidates could contact me directly, with a CV and brief expression of interest, starting now.

Best,

Paul Edwards
