The Berggruen Institute, where I am currently a joint Fellow with USC, is accepting applications for next year’s cohort until January 10th.

It’s been wonderful to have time and space to read, write and think. The interdisciplinary community of scholars has made me think about my project in new ways, and the Fellowship organizes pretty fun outings around LA.

I would be grateful if you could pass along the call for applications to senior graduate students, recent postdocs, senior scholars, and independent researchers who might want to apply. I used the fellowship as a postdoc, but more senior folks have treated it as a sabbatical. Berggruen also welcomes researchers who haven’t followed a strictly academic pathway.

I would of course be happy to talk through the application with anyone you might send my way, but the best piece of advice I have is to sketch out one “big idea” that animates both scholars and publics beyond the academy.
