Hi HASTS alumni,
I noticed in the below newsletter that there are two postdoc positions, and there are also some other interesting looking positions further down in their newsletter. If environment and sustainability are areas of interest to you and you’d like to get ESI's weekly newsletter, you can subscribe at the very bottom of their home page (https://environmentalsolutions.mit.edu/).
All my best,

Biodiversity & Cities
On May 26 and 27, ESI hosted one of our largest People, Prosperity & the Planet public events to date, to share findings and ideas from the emerging field of urban policy and design for biodiversity. "Biodiversity & Cities" brought together nine speakers from five continents to discuss how rapid urbanization is impacting the richness and variety of life on Earth—as well as the new realm of policy ideas and experiments to make cities into positive forces for biodiversity, both within their borders and far beyond city limits.

Speakers addressed the ways the resource needs of cities put pressure on biodiversity across huge distances; the growth of urban bioeconomies that promote biodiversity as an engine for jobs and opportunity; and ecological citizenship, the sense of meaning and political identity that people derive from ecological action in cities.
(On right: Professor Aliyu Barau of Bayero University Kano shared this photo of an indigenous tree planting project in Kano, Nigeria.)

As more climate migrants cross borders seeking refuge, laws will need to adapt<https://mit.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=7247cc773946fb96a52ecfa04&id=b123df57ea&e=228cc5faeb>: International law makes provision for refugees fleeing their home countries when staying may cost them their lives. But displacement by climate change doesn't fit well into this legal rubric.
