Full Professorship (W3) for Epistemology and Theory of Science

The University of Freiburg is conducting a search for a Full Professor (tenured) in the field of (Historical) Epistemology, Philosophy of the Sciences and/or Theory of the Sciences. Desired is an historical and comparative perspective on epistemology and methodology, on the societal and cultural conditions and implications of knowledge, and on the human and natural sciences. The position is particularly suitable for early career researchers.

The successful candidate will develop an international-caliber research program and will demonstrate enthusiasm for and excellence in teaching. Since the Professor’s teaching will primarily be located in the University College Freiburg, which hosts the English-language Bachelor-degree program in Liberal Arts and Sciences, experience with Liberal Education is desirable. In addition, the Search Committee welcomes research interests that resonate with the STS professorship at UCF (http://www.ucf.uni-freiburg.de/people/chair-in-science-and-technology-studies), that consider interdisciplinarity (e.g. understandings of models, experiments, observations, concepts, representations, instruments, or methods that cross disciplinary boundaries), and that take a broad approach towards the concept “Reflections on Science and Knowledge.”

Application deadline is March 31, 2020. For the official position announcement, including formal requirements and procedures, please see the University of Freiburg website: http://www.uni-freiburg.de/verwaltung/stellenboerse/00000946.
