MIT STS Graduate Program,
The Department of Engineering and Society at the University of Virginia is seeking to hire a wage lecturer in STS. Please distribute the below position announcement to the appropriate recent graduate student and predoctoral graduate student listings. Thanks!
Wage Lecturer Position
The Department of Engineering and Society at the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science (http://www.eands.virginia.edu/sts/ ) seeks candidates for a wage lecturer to assist in teaching the required first-year course, STS 1500, "Introduction to Science, Technology, and Society." For 2016-17, the theme of this course will be "Great Inventions that Changed the World," and the course provides engineering students with instruction in writing. The successful candidate will team-teach the weekly workshops, grade the written assignments, and occasionally lecture.
Candidates should be completing their Ph.Ds in STS, the history of technology, or a related field, and should be well along in writing of their dissertations. We will consider candidates with recent Ph.Ds, but our preference is for predoctoral graduate students. The appointment will be made for the academic year 2016-17 with the possibility for a second-year renewal. The positions will begin 15 August 2016 in order for the successful candidate to have time for training and to participate in the preparation of the course.
To apply, visit https://jobs.virginia.edu<https://jobs.virginia.edu/> and search for posting number 0619055. Complete a Candidate Profile online, attach a cover letter, CV, statement of teaching philosophy, and contact information for 3 references.
For additional information about the position, please contact W. Bernard Carlson, Professor and Chair, wc4p@ virginia.edu<http://virginia.edu/>.
This posting will remain open until filled.
The University of Virginia is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. Women, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
