UC Santa Cruz: Assistant Director of Research and Academic Programs (Job# JPF00179)

The Science and Justice Research Center<http://scijust.ucsc.edu/> (SJRC) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Research and Academic Programs (AD). The SJRC, brings together faculty and graduate students from across all divisions of the University to address contemporary problems that entangle questions of science and knowledge with those of ethics and justice. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to SJRC’s efforts to foster a new domain of research and teaching in science and justice. Possible related areas of research and teaching might include biodata and society, biotechnology and the environment, environmental modeling and environmental politics, technoscience and difference, and sustainability. The AD will: 1) develop the Center’s research profile through grant-writing and building research programs that reflect the Center’s research foci; 2) develop the Center’s public profile; 3) develop and teach up to two classes per academic year; 4) develop collaborations with researchers and affiliated Centers and Institutes both on and off-campus; 5) expand the Science and Justice Broader Impacts Initiative to a campus-wide program. The AD will hold two university appointments. The primary appointment will be as a coordinator at 100%, fiscal year basis. When teaching, the coordinator appointment will be reduced and a lecturer position will be added (lecturer appointment usually 37.5% for a five unit course). A Ph.D. or foreign equivalent degree in Science and Technology Studies or closely allied field and a demonstrated record of research, teaching, and grant writing in higher education are required.
