The Department of Engineering and Society in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia seeks to hire an individual with research and teaching experience in Science and Technology Studies (STS) beginning August 2014. The appointment is for one year with possibility of renewal. The salary range is $50,000 - $55,000. We are especially interested in candidates with a proven record of excellence in teaching, research, and publication in history of technology, STS, applied ethics, or technology policy. The candidate will teach the senior thesis sequence, with three sections each semester. Like other STS classes, these courses combine STS themes with writing and professional ethics. The Department of Engineering and Society teaches the humanities, social-science, and mathematics courses integral to the education of professional engineers. A PhD is required: in STS, History, Philosophy or any discipline at the intersection of technology and society.
