> Dear Sir/Madam,
>
> We appreciate any assistance you can provide in distributing the following job description for a post-doctoral fellow to join us here in Chicago.
>
> Postdoctoral Fellow
>
> The Benjamin Franklin Project at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), in partnership with the Department of Social Sciences, is pleased to announce an opening for a postdoctoral fellow as part of an expanded collaborative partnership with the Jack Miller Center (JMC). Advancing a national project on the role of the humanities in pre-professional education made possible with the generous support of the John Templeton Foundation, JMC will sponsor a visiting fellow at six institutions, each of whom will contribute to a three year national project on “Creativity, Innovation, and Free Institutions.”
>
> At IIT, the post-doctoral fellow will offer three undergraduate courses a year on topics pertaining to the history and political thought of the American Founding as extensions of the new law and science of the Atlantic Enlightenment. A strong preference will be given to candidates whose work has an interdisciplinary focus, connecting ideas of scientific and technological innovation, politics and law in the context of the rise of eighteenth century invention and entrepreneurship. Candidates with a background in history of science, history of political thought and political theory considering Enlightenment understandings of invention, property and law would be particularly welcome and encouraged to apply.
>
> In addition to engaging in an active research and publishing agenda, the candidate is expected to contribute to organizing other activities associated with the Benjamin Franklin Project (see http://www.iit.edu/franklin). The appointment will run for three academic years, beginning August 2013 and ending July 2016, with a teaching course load of 1 and 2 over each academic year of the project. Annual salary is $50,000 plus benefits.
>
> The successful candidate will join another JMC post-doc currently residing in the Department of Social Sciences, located on IIT’s main campus, south of Chicago’s downtown Loop area. Please see our website for more information about the department http://iit.edu/csl/socs/ and information about the university can be found at http://www.iit.edu.
>
> To apply please send CV and cover letter with “JMC Fellow Application” in subject line to Ashley Robinson, department coordinator: arobin12_at_iit.edu. Please include contact information for references but do not send letters unless requested. For additional information please contact Professor Christena Nippert-Eng: nippert_at_iit.edu, Director of the Benjamin Franklin Project. Review of applications will begin mid April 2013 and continue until the position is filled. The Illinois Institute of Technology is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
