The Energy, Climate, and Innovation (ECI) research program at the Center for International Environment and Resource Policy (CIERP), The Fletcher School, Tufts University, is soliciting applications for a postdoctoral scholar.

ECI is seeking to fill one postdoctoral scholar position with a focus on science and technology innovation strategy in the United States and China. The ideal candidate will have a capability and interest in research on innovation systems, objectives, strategies, operations, performance, challenges, and constraints in both China and the United States, and an ability to synthesize research results into actionable policy recommendations. The postdoctoral scholar will primarily focus on innovation in the United States for his/her research.

The postdoctoral scholar is expected to contribute to a thorough literature review, the development of a theoretical framework regarding cooperation and competition between the US and China, the development of an indicator database to assess innovation and policy performance, and the completion of at least one scholarly article. He/she will also be expected to present his/her findings before internal and external audiences and play a substantive role in the dissemination process of any findings. In addition, the fellow is expected to participate in related conferences and workshops, and to assist with project development including grant writing and/or prospect research/meetings.

The postdoctoral scholar will work collaboratively in the research program with the ECI Faculty Director, Prof. Kelly Sims Gallagher, as well as other research fellows and student research assistants. The term of the position is estimated to be October or November 2013 – June 30, 2014, with the possibility of renewal subject to performance and continuation of the research project.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Applications are welcome from recent recipients of a Ph.D. or equivalent degree. Applications will also be accepted if receipt of the doctoral degree is anticipated within three months. The ideal candidate will have academic and/or professional experience examining issues related to the research topic described above, and a demonstrated ability to perform both qualitative and quantitative analysis. In addition, ideally the candidate will have strong familiarity with innovation in one or more sectors in the United States outside of the energy sector. There is already strong capacity on energy innovation in the research group so we seek to diversify in order to do comparative analysis with other sectors. Applications from political scientists, business experts, lawyers, economists, those in the natural sciences, and others of diverse disciplinary backgrounds are welcome. Candidates must also have excellent skills in presenting complex material to a wide range of audiences. Please note that candidates holding only a Master’s degree will not be considered.

Stipend information
The position carries a monthly stipend of $3,750 plus benefits (seehttp://www.tufts.edu/central/research/postdoc/benefits.htm for more information on Tufts University benefits for postdoctoral scholars). In addition to the stipend, the postdoctoral scholar will be provided with funding for reasonable research expenses. Interested candidates are also encouraged to apply for other supplemental sources of funding. All applicants should indicate clearly in their research statement whether they are seeking full or partial funding, and indicate other potential funding sources. ECI scholars are provided with a shared office at The Fletcher School.
