*************************************************

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Virginia,
Charlottesville, VA, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured,
full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor or junior Associate
Professor, from anthropologists with a research focus on the relationship
between culture and environmental changes. Research questions might
include: how do people react to environmental changes drawing on cultural
resources-including local knowledge systems, religions and rituals, language
choice, gender identities, kinship structures, social organization, and
cultural expressions such as art, literature, poetics and music? How are
these changes situated in a wider global context and within a historical
context? Geographic area is open.

Required: Candidates must have an ongoing program of research and
publication with a focus on culture and environmental changes that
integrates in-depth ethnographic study with the advancement of theory. They
must also have a commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to
engage in interdisciplinary conversations across the University. PhD must
be in hand by August 15, 2013.

Preferred: Preference will be given to qualified candidates who have an
ability to contribute, through their research, teaching and service, to the
diversity of the academic community.

The appointment will be housed in the Anthropology Department (
<http://anthropology.virginia.edu/> http://anthropology.virginia.edu/), but
the person appointed will hold a two-year Mellon Fellowship in Environmental
Humanities at UVa's recently inaugurated Institute of Humanities and Global
Cultures, and he or she must show ability to enhance this interdisciplinary
community, engaging actively with other Fellows and with other scholars at
U.Va. to strengthen scholarship and teaching.

Review of applications will begin August 24, 2012 and early submissions are
strongly encouraged. Priority will be given to applications received by
October 19, 2012 in selecting candidates for preliminary interviews either
at the AAA Meetings in San Francisco (11/14-18, 2012) or by Skype for
selected candidates not attending the AAA. However, the search will remain
open until filled.

To apply, please submit a Candidate Profile through Jobs at UVA (
<https://jobs.virginia.edu/> https://jobs.virginia.edu) and attach the
following: CV, cover letter describing qualifications and research
trajectory, two samples of written work that demonstrate integration of
ethnography and theory, and contact information for three references; search
