The Global Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites
applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor. The appointment will
begin in the fall of 2012. The individual selected will have a tenure home
in either Political Science or Sociology. 


We seek a scholar whose research centers on globalization as it relates to
one or more of the following themes: sustainability, inequality and
development, globalization and security, global cities and urbanism. More

The successful candidate will have a half-time appointment in Global
Studies, with the remainder of the appointment and tenure home in either
Political Science or Sociology. Responsibilities include teaching, research,
and service in Global Studies and the home department. This full-time
position carries a 2 course per semester teaching obligation, of which half
of the courses will be taught in Global Studies. This position is one of
twelve faculty lines with formal Global Studies appointments. 



Global Studies is a joint BA degree program between the College of Letters &
Science and several professional schools, currently serving over 300
intended and declared majors. Courses on varying aspects of globalization,
language study, overseas internships and study abroad form the core of an
interdisciplinary curriculum, offering tracks in Global Management, Global
Communications, Global Security, Global Cities and Global Sustainability
(under development) . It is a rigorous program that attracts a diverse array
of strong and ambitious undergraduates, as well as active participation by a
dynamic group of faculty from a variety of departments and schools. Global
Studies also supports an array of scholarly programs and publication
opportunities, including an annual international conference, book series,
and Global Studies Fellows program. More information about the Global

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include: an earned doctorate in
Political Science or Sociology no later than August 2012; research focused
on globalization as it relates to one or more of the following themes:
sustainability, inequality and development, globalization and security,
global cities and urbanism; expertise that fits the programmatic needs of
both Global Studies and the tenure home department. 



Preferred qualifications include: experience teaching courses on
globalization themes; research demonstrating ongoing engagement with
transnational issues; publications in major scholarly journals and presses;
non-English language expertise; demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary
teaching and research; ability to contribute to Global Studies' diverse
components (internships, study abroad, conferences, and grant writing
activities).
