Each summer we recruit a class of approximately 40 Fellows to help Boston-area nonprofit organizations build their capacity to serve their constituents. The program begins with an intensive training curriculum that will introduce Fellows to the nonprofit sector as well as help them develop skills that will apply to a career in any sector. Topics include our consultant toolkit, nonprofit finance, Theory of Change, and effective data presentation. After training, Fellows work fulltime with their designated host site to carry out their project plan. New Sector pre-screens and scopes each project to ensure that it will have a substantial community impact while providing the Fellow with an opportunity to develop his or her professional skills. These projects help nonprofits replicate their programs, measure their impact, strengthen their operating procedures, or expand their stakeholder base. In addition to the initial training, the Fellows program offers social gatherings, workshops and supplemental trainings on a weekly basis throughout the summer. These events help our Fellows continue to hone their skills and to build a unique bond with their Fellows class. Finally, each Fellow is matched with a mentor from one of our partner consulting firms. This mentor provides guidance and advice throughout the summer. For more information about the program, please visit our website: www.newsector.org/programs/fellows.php. Our application deadline is March 1, 2007, and the program runs from May 30 to August 15. New Sector Alliance actively seeks to build a Fellows class with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences, representing a diversity of race, color, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, secular preference, political affiliation, socioeconomic status, and ancestry. Further, we encourage individuals with disabilities to apply to the program and can provide reasonable accommodations for those individuals upon request. For additional assistance please contact Carter Romansky at 617 454 8049 or cromansky at newsector.org. New Sector?s Residency in Social Enterprise (RISE): Job Description New Sector's Residency in Social Enterprise (RISE) gives recent college graduates the opportunity to lead a strategic initiative for a nonprofit organization over the course of one year. People who join our Residency develop leadership and management skills that cut across sectors and that support a career focused on positive social impact. Each year we recruit 20 outstanding college seniors and recent graduates to join our team as New Sector Residents. Through our program, our Residents spend one year working with one of our nonprofit clients to help replicate its programs, measure its impact, strengthen its operating procedures, or expand its stakeholder base. All of the projects our Residents work on have been pre-screened and scoped by New Sector's staff to ensure a substantive, enriching experience. Additionally, we go to great lengths to ensure that each Resident has the right mix of independence and support throughout the year to achieve the greatest possible professional development. In addition to support provided by New Sector's internal staff, our Residents receive guidance from professional consultants at firms including McKinsey and Company, Bain and Company, Accenture, Mercer, Boston Consulting Group, and Bridgespan. These individuals deliver workshops and provide real-time guidance in areas such as project management, persuasive communication skills, quantitative analysis, and career development. Through our training program, Residents gain a holistic understanding of the social sector and the bridges that connect it with the private sector. Past New Sector program participants have used their experience to continue to effect positive social change in both the private sector and the nonprofit sector. Our alumni work for top strategy consulting firms, start and run nonprofit organizations, and pursue graduate work in a diversity of academic areas. Compensation, which will include salary, an education award, health care benefits, and local travel stipend (in the form of a subway/bus pass), will total approximately $30,000.
