1. Sign up for a LEGS Personal Leadership Evaluation Workshop
When: Saturday, May 1, 9 am – 3 pm
Where: Location will be e-mailed to participants
Limit: 20 participants

The LEGS program is now offering a workshop to help you better
evaluate your personality traits and behavior in individual and group
settings. The workshop is designed for both experienced and aspiring
leaders. Participants will complete the DiSC self-assessment tool,
followed by a series of activities and discussions.
*Materials for the workshop are heavily subsidized* by the Student
Activities Office (SAO), Residential Life Programs, and the Graduate
Student Council (GSC). Lunch will be provided.

2. STeLA Leadership Forum 2010: Call for Applications and Info Session
Science, Technology and Leadership in Beijing this Summer!

international student association which aims 1) to empower
participants with leadership skills for solving global issues and 2)
to create its original international network of future leaders in
science and technological fields.

5. Legal Beagles: Science, Technology, and the Law

A Light Dinner will be served.
We will take a broad look at the intersection of the law and
technology. The evening will feature a panel with Natasha Us ‘84 , Kia
Freeman ‘89, and Julie Goodman ’96 with discussion ranging from patent
prosecution and litigation to testifying on scientific matters in
court. It will include topics such as what is the value in seeking
patent protection to a company or an inventor? How do you get a
patent? How do you extract value from a patent once you have one? How
can you apply your technical expertise to providing scientific
technical support in litigation? The panelists will help answer these
questions, as well as provide insight into career paths for scientists
and engineers in the legal field, including as attorneys and as
technical experts.

6. The Who, What and Why behind the 2010 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize
When: Thursday, April 22, 12:30 – 2 pm
Where: Mezzanine Lounge, Student Center (W20-307)
Learn about the $30,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize and join this
year’s Student Prize Winner and Finalists as they discuss what it
means to be an inventor, the inventive process, and their portfolio of
inventions.

10. Graduate Women at MIT (GWAMIT) Spring Kick-Off
Graduate Women at MIT, a new institute-wide women's group, is holding
a series of lectures and workshops for our kick-off week. Join us for
any or all of our events!

Keynote, "The Evolution of Bias" (5:30-6:30, 46-3002, location subject
to change)
Freada Kapor Klein, an expert on workplace diversity relations, will
describe implicit and explicit gender-related bias in academic
environments. Reception to follow.

Workshop, "Negotiating Difficult Situations"* (1:30-3, 66-168)
Toni Robinson, MIT Ombudsperson, will lead exercises demonstrating how
to handle situations including negotiating credit, dealing with
harassment, and negotiating attention from supervisors. Dessert

Women in research and industry discuss the role of collaboration in
