Graduate Student Volunteer Day V: The GSC Orientation Committee is pleased to announce that the fifth annual Graduate Student Volunteer Day (GSVD) will be held next Saturday, September 18, 2004 from 8:30am to 3pm. GSVD is an annual part of the GSC orientation program that each year brings together over 150 graduate students and friends from around campus for a one-day community service event. Participants will start and end the day together with first breakfast and then a BBQ at Kresge, but the volunteering activities are done in smaller groups of 10-15 people each. The volunteer sites have been organized by campus student groups at various service organizations around Boston and Cambridge. We will be going to many of the same sites as last year, plus many others! For example, this year we'll be cooking meals, helping clean up beaches and parks, painting houses, assisting with charity walks, and much, much more. Please check out the GSVD website for more details on the projects being offered at this year's GSVD and to register: http://web.mit.edu/gsc/www/programs/gsvd. Be sure to encourage all your friends and labmates to sign up too! This email contains: -Departure locations and instructions -Seating Instructions -Directions Departure Locations and Instructions; We will be departing from 2 locatons: Ashdown house (for those who want to walk over to Fenway) and the Kendall T-Stop (for those who would like to take the T). Please note that both groups will be departing at 6PM sharp. For those of you new to the area, you will see that during a Red Sox game, the T often runs much slower, and will require for you to be boarding the Red Line no later than 6PM. The T-route will be; (starting at Kendall) Red Line inbound to Park St., then Park St. (B, C, or D lines) to Kenmore Square. Seating Instructions: We have purchased a large block of seats. However, we need everyone to sit in their assigned seat (the seat number is on the ticket). If you purchased tickets for yourself and a guest that are not adjacent, please go to your assigned seat first and then try to exchange with someone. This has worked in the past and there shouldn't be any problems. Nonetheless, Sylvain and I, and the two event coordinators, will be on hand to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Directions; If you plan to find your own way over to Fenway Park, please get directions from the Red Sox homepage at; http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/bos/ballpark/bos_ballpark_directions.jsp Fenway Park is just south of Kenmore Square in Boston (near the big CITGO sign!).
