[GSC-HCA-Offcampus] Off-Campus Housing October Events

Hello Off-Campus Residents!

The semester is in full swing and fall vibes are taking over! We’ve got an October lineup for you that involves taking advantage of the outdoors before it gets too cold and snowy (winter is coming), celebrating Halloween a little early (for those of us that need any excuse to wear our costumes more than once a year), and letting your creative side out (disgruntled graduate students, we hear you). Participants will be selected from the signups (https://signup.mit.edu/octoberOCH) on a lottery basis.

As always, if you have a suggestion for an event or an issue regarding off-campus life that could be relevant for discussion with the GSC, please let us know. 1. Parkour at Harvard Square

Description: As the weather is getting cooler, outdoor exercise is starting to lose its appeal. But not yet!!! So lets go enjoy outdoor exercise with fellow off campus grad students before the snow kicks in.

Parkour Generations have been offering Parkour classes in Boston for a while and they are damn good at it. Come try out their Wednesday class at Harvard Square and feel like a ninja for a night. Just kidding! The class is offered by trained personnel who take safety very seriously.

2. Cirque of the Dead: Macabre Circus

Description: Come feel the spirit of Halloween with us at the Cirque of the Dead - a macabre, gory, and gruesome show of burlesque, aerial, acrobatic and juggling acts. Not for the faint of heart! If you really want to show your spirit, show up in costume! (Hey - it's never too early to start celebrating Halloween, right?)

**NOTE: seats are standing room only, so be prepared to be on your feet for a while; comfortable shoes recommended

3. Story Slam: Fearless

Description: Oye, Oye, Fearless grad student, a story slam is a contest of stories by known and undiscovered talent. Story slammers sign up on the night to tell a 5-minute short story on the evening's theme, here Fearless. Ten names are drawn at random from a box. If you feel like it, you can definitely try to tell a story on stage. The show allows you to listen to intimate telling and witty anecdotes. It is organized by Massmouth Inc., a well-known story teller group.
