[GSC-HCA-Offcampus] Off-campus events and announcements

[HCA Off-Campus Chair]

Dear fellow off-campus graduate students,

First, a big hello to our new off campus co-chair, George Chao! George will
be transitioning into the position over the next couple of months, and
we're excited to have him on board. Kelsey and Luke will still be here as
well.

Below are some opportunities for the upcoming week in the off-campus
community. We'll be back on the normal newsletter and event schedule when
classes start again next month.

As always, if you have a suggestion for an event or an issue regarding
off-campus life that could be relevant for discussion with the GSC, please
let us know. If you have an event that you would like advertised to this

1. Lunch at the Kebab Factory
When: Monday January 20th, 12:00pm
Where: The Kebab Factory, 414 Washington St, Somerville

Description: While a delicious Indian lunch might not be the most topical
way to honor Martin Luther King Day, it is a great way to socialize with
your fellow off-campus students and discuss whatever topic you please on
this Institute Holiday! GSC HCA Off-Campus will cover the cost of the lunch
buffet. Spouses and significant others welcome if included in RSVP.

NOTE: You can only sign up for ONE of the two food events this week. 20
attendees will be selected at random for this lunch* the morning prior. You
will be notified if you are selected only. If you want to be guaranteed to
attend, volunteer to organize an event!

2. Dinner at The Independent
When: Wednesday January 22nd, 7:00pm
Where: The Independent, 45 Union Sq, Somerville

Description: Socialize with fellow off-campus students, discuss off-campus
community and safety issues, and try out this fun restaurant and pub in
Union Square, Somerville! For those selected from the signup list, GSC HCA
Off-campus will subsidize up to $15/person for food and non-alcoholic
beverages. Spouses and significant others welcome if included in RSVP.

3. Hockey Night at the Thirsty

Description: See the Boston Bruins play the New York Islanders. Dan Hunter,
head coach of the MIT hockey team will be present for a talk and Q&A. We
will be offering a 10 wings for $2 special. 21+ govt issued ID required.
